The Vicat Apparatus is used to determine the setting time and consistency of cement paste, mortar, and concrete. The apparatus consists of a plunger, a mould, and a measuring device.

The test involves placing a cement sample in the mould and applying a standard plunger to create an indentation in the sample. The setting time is determined by measuring the depth of penetration of the plunger over time. This helps engineers and researchers understand the characteristics of cementitious materials and ensures that they meet specified standards for construction projects.

• Metal Stand with Sliding Rod: The frame of the Vicat apparatus is usually made of metal and includes a sliding rod mechanism. This rod allows for precise adjustment of the position of the plunger or needle.
• Adjustable Indicator: An indicator is attached to the sliding rod, which moves over a graduated scale. This indicator allows for accurate measurement of the depth of penetration of the plunger into the cement sample.
• Plunger: The bottom end of the sliding rod is attached to a plunger. This component applies a standard test weight (typically 300 g) to create an indentation in the cement sample.
• Graduated Scale: The frame includes a graduated scale against which the indicator moves. This scale is typically marked in millimetres and allows for precise measurement of the depth of penetration.

• The apparatus consists of a metallic frame bearing a freely movable and with a cap at top
• One vicat mould

• One set of needles one each initial needle, final needle and consistency plunger.
• It comes with a dashpot which facilities gentle lowering of the needles.

• Vicat needle apparatus for determining consistency of hydraulic cement. Gypsum plaster, lime etc. As per ASTM C 187-58 C 472-62 C 110-58, IS 2542(Part-1) can also be supplied.
