The temperature at which oil or solvent gives off sufficient vapour to ignite in air is known as flash point. Flash point apparatus is used to determine the flash point of oil and solvent so that we can store that oil or solvent by creating and maintaining such an environment in which vapour does not form. Abel Flash Point Apparatus is suitable for determining the close cup flash point of Petroleum and mixtures according to IP 33 & IP 170 and also IS 1448 (Part I) 1985 (P:20). It is suitable for oils whose flashes below 70°C. It is supplied with oil cup, cover fitted with stirrer, thermometer socket S.S. Water Bath, Stand. Abel flash point apparatus is used to determine the flash point of petroleum products, solvent, oil and mixtures. Abel flash point apparatus consists of one brass cup fitted with a test flame arrangement. Stirrer is placed in the brass cup for maintaining the uniform temperature of the sample by stirring it. The outer jacket of the water bath is fitted with a stand. Electricity heated apparatus of 500-watt heater is fitted to the stand which can be controlled by an energy regulator. This apparatus is applicable for the products having flash points below 70°C. It is widely used in paint and coating industry, petroleum industry etc.

For determining closed cup flash point of petroleum products, their mixtures, other liquid and paints, having flash points between 19°C and 49°C. Each instrument is supplied complete with an oil cup, cover fitted with gas test jet assembly, water bath and stand, but without thermometer.
